Every year, CNN honours one extraordinary individual who has made a difference in their community through the annual US Heroes Awards.
Since launching 15 years ago, the awards have recognised over 500 extraordinary people, the majority of whom have gone on to win numerous awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In December 2018 CNN will launch an all-new version of the awards, hosted by Jake Tapper and featuring special appearances by celebrities.
The initiative has already seen extraordinary young people, rescuers and volunteers nominated by the public for their great deeds. With the final group voted on by the public, the 2019 US Heroes Awards will once again honour a courageous, selfless and remarkable American hero, be it a teacher, police officer, educator, writer, activist, or humanitarian.
The United States of America is at a crossroads, and the issues we face are as large as they are political. Whether it’s fighting against rising fuel costs, preserving and protecting the nation’s health care system, protecting children from abuse and neglect, or promoting an environment that allows future generations to thrive, there is not a greater priority for all Americans than how we treat each other.
Through the US Heroes Awards, CNN is investing in America by shining a light on people who volunteer, serve, help, and transform their communities each and every day. CNN’s commitment is to support the stories of men and women whose bravery and kindness often go unrecognised and whose achievements go largely unheralded.
